
What is a Dosha?
And why does it matter for your healing?
Ayurveda - called the “sister science” of yoga, is an ancient system of healing that’s been practiced for over 5,000 years. While yoga invites us to move and breathe with intention, Ayurveda invites us to live, eat, rest, and care for ourselves in alignment with nature.
At the heart of Ayurveda is the understanding that everything - your body, mind, mood, digestion, even the seasons - is made up of the five elements:
Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether.
These elements combine to form three primary energy types, called Doshas.
Vata: = Air + Ether
Pitta = Fire + Water
Kapha = Earth + Water
So, What’s a Dosha, really?
A Dosha is your unique mind-body-blueprint.
It influences everything from your digestion to your sleep, our energy to your emotions. We each have all three doshas within us - but most of us have one or two that are dominant.
Understanding your primary dosha (Prakriti) is like discovering your energetic fingerprint.
It helps you:
Understand your strengths and sensitivities
Make food and lifestyle choices that support your system
Recognize when you’re out of balance (Vikriti) and gently bring yourself back to center.
