I Am the Sky: Observing Life’s Weather Within
I Am the Sky: Observing Life’s Weather Within | Blog by Cat Pinegar
"You are the sky. Everything else is just the weather."
— Pema Chödrön
Above every storm, beyond every cloud, there is a vast, open space — calm, steady, eternal. This space is the true essence of who we are. The thoughts, emotions, and experiences that rise and fall in our lives are like weather patterns: ever-changing, sometimes intense, sometimes gentle, but never touching the sky itself.
Becoming the Sky
We often believe we are defined by our feelings, our reactions, our circumstances. But pause. Take a deep breath. And notice.
Within you lies a part that watches without judgment, untouched by joy or sorrow, unshaken by chaos. This is your inner sky — wide, spacious, and still — holding all the weather that life sends.
Observing the Weather
Spiritual growth begins when we learn to witness rather than react:
Watch your thoughts as clouds drifting across the sky. Let them move without grabbing onto them.
Feel your emotions as passing storms or gentle rain. Notice them rise and fall, while the sky within you remains calm.
Rest in stillness, even for a few breaths, and recognize that you are the sky itself — expansive and unchanging.
"You are not the storm; you are the sky that holds it."
Living as the Sky
When we live from this awareness:
Decisions flow from clarity, not impulse.
Challenges become opportunities for growth.
Life’s highs and lows are seen as temporary weather, not permanent states.
Spiritually, this sky-like awareness connects you to the infinite. The divine is not somewhere out there — it is the consciousness that observes all within. Every breath, every heartbeat, every sensation becomes a reminder of the vast, luminous presence that is you.
Reflection: Rest in the Sky
Today, take a few moments to:
Close your eyes.
Watch your thoughts drift by like clouds.
Observe your emotions rise and fall like passing storms.
Rest in the awareness that holds it all — the sky within you.
"Awakening is not about striving. It is about remembering. Remembering that you are the sky — vast, still, and eternal — holding all the weather of life."
